Audio: The Sport of Auditioning
Presented by Jane Brody
An Audio Lecture/Demonstration with printed short play to analyze and discuss.
Like sports, auditioning should be unexpected, competitive and fun. And that is the way Jane Brody has been teaching audition since 1981; urging, prodding and cajoling actors to make their cold readings personal, spontaneous and active.
Using the “12 Guideposts to a Successful Audition," developed by her mentor and teacher Michael Shurtleff, Jane shows how to get to the heart of a script in a minimum of time.
With this recording you will be able to join the class in learning how to prepare for a cold reading.
First, Jane discusses the basic steps of a script “breakdown”. Then, she instructs the class to read and prepare the accompanying short script using what they have learned. The listener is urged to stop the recording, do the prep, return to the recording and compare notes while listening to the class discussion that follows.
